DJ's and Shows on retro soul radio

Dave Simons

Dave Simons Saturday Soul Sequence

Like most DJ's and presenters, I've lived the Club, Pub, and Radio life to the full. I've played the biggest tunes, and spent all those unsociable hours in Motorway Service Stations at unearthly times drinking endless cups of coffee to stay awake.

One thing is certain though, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Musically my passion sits with a really broad spectrum of Soul. In my opinion, it's the only music that has a real pulse, and still gives me goosebumps and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The day I give this all up will be the day I am not passionate about what I do, so bring on the Zimmer and blow out some candles on my 90th Birthday! That is the abridged version of my profile, if you want to know more, get in touch. Love to hear from you.

Yours Musically Dave Simons.

Steve Montana

The Steve Montana Soul Show

I started to DJ and got the bug when I was 14 years of age, and I am now in my mid forties. It all started with a local youth group, and by the age of 15 I was inspired by great artists such as Lonnie Liston-Smith, Ronnie Laws, George Duke, and Teena Marie. With such great Soul Artists to listen to I was totally hooked and have been buying fantastic Dance Music and DJ’ing ever since!

From 1983 I was playing London Pubs with my mobile Disco and then in 1984 moved into Club’s. This started with Thursday and Friday Nights at an East Side London County Club. Then by 1986 I was doing Main Nights at many London Venues. I had a big following playing serious Jazz Funk and Soul music, as well as Disco Music of the 70’s. By 1987 I moved to venues generally on the West side of London. This included another Country Club and various other Clubs and Wine bars. During this time I also played for Hospital Radio and Late Night Pirate Radio Stations, with the music I love and still play to this day, which is now over 30 years!.

There is a long list of DJ's and Radio presenters that have inspired me over years, and some of these include Robbie Vincent, Greg Edwards, Chris Hill, Tom Holland, Jeff Young, The Late Great, Froggy & Steve Walsh, and many more the list is to long. I hope you will all enjoy the Steve Montana Soul Show Live and Interactive here on Retro Soul Radio, the only place to be for Jazz Funk Soul & Disco Boogie where i will capture that old style of Radio format which we all love and miss from way back in the 70's and 80's.

You can get in touch and request those Maximum Memories and songs at steve.montana@o2.co.uk and www.retrosoulradio.co.uk. Thank you for reading my profile, and don't forget to tell your friends about Retro Soul Radio and become a part of the growing team here at R.S.R.

Neil Winter

The Retro Funk & Soul Show

I began my DJ career in 1976, and musically the 1970s to me really was one truly memorable decade to get started.

Over the years i have been involved in various radio projects, and retro soul radio seems to be a great oportunity to play some amazing music.

Funk and soul music has been a big part of my life, so to play these great tracks on the radio has real meaning. Please feel free to get in touch with me at any time and remember "Feel The Music" on RSR.

Mike C

"The Feelgood Factor"

MIKE C has been hooked on music, broadcasting and electronics for as long as he can remember. At the age 13 he began collecting records and built a mobile DJ system.

The start of a long part-time career as a mobile, club and radio DJ. He ran his own FM radio station for several years which received good reviews in magazines & news papers.

In his 20s he was managing modern pubs with a music theme. He later launched and ran his own company manufacturing sound and lighting equipment for the DJ market and also produced advertisements and jingles for radio and TV stations. Mike C likes to play tracks that have the "feel good factor" :o)

Don Watson

"Donny's Friday Floor Fillers"

I remember sneaking into my first Nightclub whilst in my last year at school and delighting in the songs of the day from such great artists as Fat Larry, Lonnie Liston Smith, Edwin Starr and Evelyn "Champagne" King.

It was back then I got the funk soul bug and and was instantly hooked! As time went on I built up a vast collection of 12" singles and Album cuts, and set up as a DJ working music bars and pubs in the greater London area

I have had to play an assortment of music over the years but my heart lays firmly with Soul, Jazz Funk, Disco Funk and the classics of the day. I jumped at the chance to join RSR and look forward to Friday's where I can bring back the memories of the music we all know and love.

Feel free to get in touch with me by email

Graham Cox

"Coxy's Classics"

Hi i'm Graham, and let me begin by saying Soul Music isn't something that I just listen to, "Its my Life".

Since I was 12 years old I have been collecting Soul Funk & Disco music. The first record I bought was a Tamla Motown classic “This old heart of mine by the Isley Brothers" and ever since then I have lived on a diet of Northern Soul, Stax, Motown, Philly, Kent, Okeh & Atlantic record labels - I could go on and on.

Early on in years, and the same as most DJ's, I spent my youth building my record collection whilst doing disco's in and around the Midlands in the UK. My responsibilities later changed and I got married. Children came along so I had to do the "work" thing but my passion still continued with both listening & buying Soul music. Even as a family, my wife and I took every opportunity, and still to this date see as many live soul acts as we can.

I am looking forward to sharing my music with you all on R.S.R. Big thanks to Dave & Neil for the opportunity, and hope you will enjoy my choice of tunes. Thanks everyone and see you on-air.

Graham Cox.
